Outfit of the day: In the navy

Today, I thought, was a good day to wear my navy sailor dress. I like this dress a lot, because of the look and feel of it, but mostly because it has a full circle skirt and you can spin and turn with it!

And this dress reminds me of a picture from way back. When I was seven, my younger sister was born and that year the school photographer came by at school as usual to take pictures of everybody, and he had a special brothers and sisters day. So me and my new born sister were photographed together. Offcourse this event called for a special dress :-) So my mom made us wear matching sailor/navy outfits!

Don't we look cute!!

And I always thought that we would never wear matching outfits again (because when you're little, you don't want to look alike), my sister now has the exact same dress as me! (only she has it in black)

I was trying to make a swirl with the dress, but that didn't work on the photo :-)

Outfit of the day: Happy spring

In my job as a museum teacher I get a lot of comments from the school children who visit the museum, and today was no different! A girl asked my if I dressed up for her (and her class) and was surpised that I dress like this every day. A from the younger girls I hear a lot of: Oh miss you look lovely. And you know, it is said that children and fools speak the truth!..... ;-)

So here is a post of my outfit today...

The dress I bought a couple of years ago at the Noordermarkt in Amsterdam and everytime I wear it, it reminds me of happy times and spring. Probably because of the bright and happy colours.

Dress: Betty Barclay, bought at Noordermarkt

Sneak peek of my interior

So, instead of outfits, today a post in where I give you a little sneak peek inside my house. I would describe my house as colourfull, mixed patterns, bright and shiny and full of stuff with a touch of retro/vintage :-)

Enjoy <3

Outfit of the day: Apples and cherries

After a lovely weekend filled with beautiful weather (outside) and a very persuasive cold (inside my nose), I finally have some time for a new outfit of the day, because I don't think you want to see my work clothes or my pj's ;-).

Today, in honour of again some lovely sunny weather, I decided to wear a summery dress with a happy apple print (yes, I like my fruits!). Although the material of the dress is a horrible seventies polyester fabric which, in this wind, goes everywhere except on places where it actually covers my legs... its a very comfortable dress to wear.

It is debatable wether its a apple print (like sliced parts of apple) or just a flower print. I decided on apples, just because I like them! :-)

These clips on the shoes I love! You can sass up a simple pair of shoes with some glamour. I have some more, which I found at the thriftstore and in the back of my mom's closet (and which I secretly took, sssst...)

Dress: Noordermarkt, Amsterdam
Cardigan: Hema

Oh and on my lips: my lovely new colour lipstick Ruby Woo from MAC

The perfect red

My quest in life has been for a while finding the perfect red lipstick.

And I think I might have finally succeeded!

After many 'wrong' shades of red, either to pink or to brown or to orange (yes, I'm rather picky at a specific colour lipstick :-), I heard some good things of the colours Ruby Woo and Russian Red from M.A.C.

So I headed to the nearest point were the sell MAC lipstick and tried them on. It was difficult to chose, but eventually I went for the shade Ruby Woo. A gorgeous matte, deep, bright red color! So I indulged myself and spent over 19 euros for a lipstick (yes, you read that well ..... more than 19 euros for a lipstick!! The most I ever spend on such a thing. But I worked hard lately and I think I deserved it).

And I love it!! The colour is gorgeous and its stays on for a long time (although I have a habit of eating up my lipcolour, so around the corners of my mouth it disappears rather quickly, but that's just my bad habit and not the lipstick... ;-)

And, hey, if Dita wear it, I can wear it as well !! I must say it looks rather good on her.

Still I have one confession to make: I might even buy another one, this time the Russian Red, no matter that it costs more than 19 euros. I'm in love with these lipsticks.

Outfit of the day: Pineapples

No outfits of the day from this weekend, because I had to work at an event in a greenhouse for my job. So I dug up my old sneakers and a pair of jeans and walked around like a slob this weekend (and I must admit, it felt quite nice, haha). But luckily, its back to vintage wear!

So this outfit I wore last week and if you look closely, you can spot the pineapples of this lovely printed skirt. I bought the skirt a while ago in my local thriftstore and immediately liked the fruity print. And a couple of weeks later I found a dress at the same store, also with pineapples in the print! Can you believe it!

And to top it up, I also have a pair of pineapple earrings!

Spot the pineapple....

It looks a bit funny around the armpits, but this mannequin is a size zero (and luckily I'm not.... :-)

Vintage sewing: 1940's dress

I like remaking my clothes, so I can adjust them to my fit, but making clothes from scratch (or more likely, from a sewing pattern :-)  I find much more difficult.

A couple of years ago I tried it for the first time with this lovely retro sewing pattern form 1947.

And after some difficulties with the pattern, the fit and the fabric (so basically with everything... but luckily I had help from my teacher at the sewing class I attented at that time), this was the end result.

And I must say that I as quite proud of it, but because the fit is still not perfect, I never wore this dress much. But recently I came across a new beautiful vintage sewing pattern for a 1940's dress, I thought, let's try it again. This is the pattern and I think I will make the version with the long sleeves and the belt, but adjust it to 3/4 sleeves. And I even already have the perfect fabric for it!

So let's hope this time I have a little bit more luck with this new pattern (and with the fact that I'm an extremely lazy seamstress and when I don't get a good result immediately I might just give up ;-) . I'll try to persevere and hopefully show you the end result soon!!

Outfit of the day: Asian Easter

This outfit I wore during Easter monday, a little bit festive and with a summery feel (hence the new sunglasses ;-). It didn't mind that it was only 4 degrees outside, the sun was shining!! And I have a thing for sunglasses (just as I have a thing for shoes, bags, hairflowers and scarfs....)

I really like the print of this lovely silk dress, it feels somehow a bit Japanese, because of the cranes and the coloured leaves. The dress is homemade, although not by me. I got it at a clothing swap I organized with some friends.
